Opening

Entry
Motion detector will turn on porch light at night.

WATER
On the floor to the left of the back (south) door is a cover.

Open and observe the water system valves.

This picture show the valves in the operational configuration.
They will be different depending on the season and weather expectations.

Should hear water flowing.

DO NOT TURN ON THE HOT WATER HEATER, yet.
NOTE: If hot water heater is turned on when the tank is empty the heating elements will burnout in seconds!

Use this tool to reach it.

Winter Note: May take an hour or more for water to flow, if pipes are frozen.
Check for water flowing freely from both hot and cold faucets (check each separately, especially upstairs sink.) Note: When both faucets are on, one may backfill the other and make it appear both are flowing.

DO NOT TURN ON THE HOT WATER HEATER, yet.

When water is flowing freely.

With all faucets, hose bibs and toilets off, should not hear any water flowing (leaking).
If you hear water flowing - investigate.

If no leaks and water flowing (especially upstairs hot water)
NOTE: If hot water heater is turned on in when the tank is empty the heating elements will burnout in seconds! Spare heating elements are stored with tools under the stairs.

Start a fire (if necessary)

Drinking Water
Use the water filter system.
The filter will probably be in the fridge (winters we’ll bring it home so it doesn’t freeze and crack)
Just pour water from the tap into the blue unit on the top of the filter system.
Refill as needed.

Should be all set!

General

For winter only -


Drinking Water
Dump out the filter system and put the blue part, with the filter, in the fridge.
For winter only -
Remove the filter and bring it home.

Electrical
Leave the front porch motion sensor on, otherwise,
For winter only -

Fire

Water & Water Heater
Winterizing - (when freezing temps possible)
ENSURE the Water heater is OFF before proceeding.
NOTE: If hot water heater is on when the tank is empty the heating elements will burnout in seconds!

Freeze protection!!
Add antifreeze to all traps and toilet bowls and toilet reservoirs. Antifreeze is in the stair storage area in a crate.
Use white enamel cup as measure
